The first 2018 West Region trail tournament kicks off February 3 & 4 on Lake Amistad. This is two separate tournaments, one each day. Points will be awarded for each individual tournament. Make sure all of your National, State, and local club dues have been paid, and your B.A.S.S. Membership is current. You will be able to pay those dues and join the West Region at the tournament registration. The registration and meeting will be held, at the Ramada Inn of Del Rio, at 6:00 pm Friday evening Feb. 2nd. All of the tournament rules, format, and times will be discussed at the meeting. Entry fee is $75 for each tournament, this includes the “Big Bass” award also. There will be two official practice days prior to competition, Thursday Feb. 1 & Friday Feb. 2. 2018 BASS Nation West Region Schedule
The West Region has finalized their 2018 tournament trail. They will begin with an annual tradition of heading south to Lake Amistad in February. To accommodate the “Top 6 Challenge” they will skip a few week and resume in late March with a trip to Lake Brownwood. April finds them returning to Hubbard Creek after a few missed years due to low water levels. In May they head for Lake LBJ and then conclude the season on O.H. Ivie Reservoir, lake levels permitting, if not Possum Kingdom Reservoir will be the alternate choice. The 2017 West Region Chamionship will be held October 21 & 22 on Lake Stillhouse. Headquarters is at the Temple Travel Lodge [254-773-7221] Mention Texas Bass Nation] There is a meeting that will be Friday night, Oct.20, 6:00 pm at Sol De Jalisco Mexican Restaurant just a couple of blocks south of the hotel. We have a meeting room reserved. Tournament rules and weigh in times will be announced there.The address for the meeting is 4201 S General Bruce Dr, Temple, TX. We will be launching out of Riversbend Park. Remember that the lake is off limits from this Sunday, Oct 15 sunset, till the official practice days [Thurs & Fri] Oct. 19 & 20 sunrise. Kelley Hudson had a phenomenal day on Lake Brownwood. Kelley brought a five fish string weighing 21.48 anchored by the Big Bass of the tournament, a 7.79 beauty. Kelley used the combination of a Carolina Rig and a flipping stick to secure the win. He also secured the “Angler of the Year” title with the win. In second place was Gary Friedel with five fish weighing 12.74. The third and final spot was claimed by Ernie Kuehner with five bass weighing 11.48. No report on what they were doing. Final standings and complete results can be found on the tournament page. The 2017 West Region Championship will be held October 21st, 22nd on Lake Stillhouse. The final 2017 West Region Trail tournament will be held June 10th on Lake Brownwood. The lake is off limits till the official practice day, Friday June 9th. Headquarters is at the Gate 1 Motel in Brownwood. Registration will be from 6:30 – 8:00 on Friday evening with a meeting to be held at 7:00pm Friday in the Directors Room, at the Section Hand Resturant, located next to the motel. The Championship lake will be voted on at the meeting along with some new important State news. The tournament format and weigh in times will also be discussed for the Brownwood tournament. It’s been a while since the two time Bassmaster Classic, B.A.S.S. Nation qualifier, Bryan Schmidt, fished a West Region trail tournament and he hasn’t lost his touch. Bryan won the regions fifth trail tournament held on O.H. Ivie Reservoir with five bass weighing 14.59. He also claimed the Big Bass honors with a 4.65. Bryan used a combination of a swimbait early and a Texas rig later fishing main lake points in 3-8 ft. water. In second place was Kelley Hudson with three bass weighing 8.34 and rounding out the third and final place was Barry Bennett. Barry had three fish weighing 7.02 anchored by a 3.85. Anglers reported that the fishing was really tough, not many bites. Congratulations to the winners. We will see you June 10th, on Lake Brownwood, for the final 2017 West Region Trail tournament.
The West Region will hold their fifth trail tournament of this season on Lake O.H. Ivie, this Saturday, May 13th. Headquarters will be at Kennedy Park. Registration will be at Room #30, May 12th from 6pm-7pm [Cinder block rooms just north of the store or closest to the ramp]. The West Region Trail’s fourth tournament will be held on Lake Buchanan this Saturday, April 22nd. Registration will be held from 4pm until 6pm on Friday evening, April 21st, at the Cedar Point Ramp parking lot. Weigh in will also be at Cedar Point ramp.
