The Panhandle Region’s Second stop of the Year was for events 3 and 4 at Ute Lake. The Lake level has raised to almost capacity and looks great as there is an abundance of flooded cover. There were 12 Anglers battling it out to gain valuable Region Championship Qualifying Points. Saturday Anglers faced windy conditions around 9 AM, however the conditions were good enough for Kris Bosley to sight fish his way to a limit weighing 16.00 to claim top honors anchored by the Big Bass weighing 4.54, Second Place was captured by Jeff Woodington with a nice limit weighing 11.75, and third place was taken by Tom Jessop with a limit of fish weighing in at 9.81 pounds.
Sunday Anglers were faced with similar conditions however from the first light winds were already blowing almost straight out of the West. When the weigh in concluded Kris Bosley once again garnered the top spot with a nice limit of fish weighing 14.04 pounds and Big Bass of 4.35, Jeff Woodington took second place with a 3 fish stringer weighing 8.86 pounds. and rounding out the top 3 again was Tom Jessop with a limit tipping the scales at 7.96 pounds.
Longtime Ute Lake resident Ben Newton was trying to remember the last time there was a two day limit that topped 30 pounds at Ute and could only remember some early Redman Tournaments that where in the 27 to 29 pound category. Congratulations Kris on a truly outstanding weekend of fishing!!! The flooded cover looks to offer protection for the fry after the spawn and things are looking very positive for the future of Ute Lake.
The next stop for the Panhandle Region Trail will be at Lake Conchas on May 21 – 22, 2016.
The Panhandle Region had 11 Anglers make the trek to Del Rio to fish Big Blue for the first Region Event of the Year. Upon arriving the weather couldn’t have been better! Saturday morning anglers awoke to a strong north wind blowing and much different conditions than we had during the two practice days. As always somebody figures them out and Kris Bosley won both the Region with a nice sack weighing 19.61, Kris reported catching his fish on a swimbait and Texas rigged chigger craw fishing the chigger craw especially slow. Second place went to to Bill McCoun weighing four fish for 11.55 and Third Place went to Mike Hershey with four that weighed 6.87. Bill McCoun had Big Bass on day 1 with a 5.38 largemouth.
Sunday anglers were presented with almost no wind but temperatures were chilly and the water temp in most places went down by 6 -7 degrees. Darrel Blades took first in the Region with a limit weighing 15.38 anchored by a 5.38 brute!!!! Darrel reported he soaked a senko (when that bite is on watch out for Mr. D Blades). Second went to Mr Consistent Kris Bosley with a limit for 13.79 and he reported catching some of his fish on a drop shot Sunday. Third on Sunday went to Warren Burrows with 3 fish weighing 9.09. Our very own Macky Bosley (Mr Consistents Dad) took big bass honors in the Region with a 6.04 Beast. Kris reported the fish was very hot and put up a challenge to get it in the boat!!!
The next event will be at Ute April 23 and 24 Region event consisting of two one day tournaments.

It is with heavy heart, I bring this message of remembrance to you. An early morning boating accident on Saturday, claimed the life of Michael Conaway a member of the Katy Bassmaster Club. I would ask that we as a fellowship of anglers, keep Michael’s family and friends in our prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
Often when accidents occur, we have the feeling that we would like to help, but don’t know how. Money won’t fix this or bring Michael back. However, if you would like to help the family defer costs that are inevitable, click the [Continue reading] link, then the GoFundMe link and do what you can. It’s not what we do from our hip pocket that matters, but from our heart pocket that is appreciated most.
I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.” – Leo Buscaglia
