The West Region has finalized their 2017 schedule. The first tournament kicks off in a few weeks down on Lake Amistad. The West Region and the Panhandle Region will combine their tournaments into one event but keep the individual points standings separated. More details to come soon.

Katy Bassmasters has announced that they will be hosting a benefit tournament for the family of Mike Conaway on September 10, 2016 on Lake Conroe. Mike Conaway was a member of Katy Bassmasters and had passed away in a tragic boating accident during the BASS Nation Regional tournament on Lake Conroe in February. There will be raffles with great prizes and an auction.

The final 2016 West Region Trail tournament was held this past weekend on Lake Brownwood. First place went to Bobby Maynard with 5 bass weighing 12.68lbs. Bobby also claimed the Big Bass of the tournament with a 4.87lb. bass. In second place was Barry Bennett with 4 bass weighing 11.70lbs and in the third and final spot was Jason Buchanan with 5 bass weighing 7.92lbs. Most of the bass came on Texas rigged worms in 6 to 8 feet, in the flooded salt cedars, off of points. Congrats to all the winners. The West Region Championship will be held October 22nd & 23rd on Possum Kingdom lake. Have a great summer and we’ll see you at PK.
The final 2016 West Region Trail tournament will be held July 9th on Lake Brownwood. Official practice day is Friday the eighth. The lake is off limits from sundown Sunday, July 3rd till sunrise Friday, July 8th. Headquarters and Registration is at the Gate 1 Motel (325-643-5463) Registration is from 5pm-7pm Friday, July 8th at the Gate 1 motel. Weigh in will be at the parking lot adjacent to the ramp at the Lake Brownwood dam. Times will be announced at registration. See you there.
Recent rains increased O.H. Ivie lake levels. Ten feet of new water greeted West Region anglers for their fifth trail tournament of the season. Fishing was tough but a few anglers managed to still get some quality bites. In first place with three bass weighing 16.42 was David Zak, anchored by a 7.99lb. bass. Placing second with three bass weighing 10.72 was Brian Bollinger. Brian also recieved the Big Bass honors with his 8.97lb. beauty. Finishing in the third and final spot was Troy Bryant with two bass at 10.17. Troy also had a 7.26lb bass as his anchor fish. Winners reported catching their fish on Carolina rigged worms, Rattle Traps, and Spinnerbaits in 5- 10 feet of water. Congratulations and we will see you at Lake Brownwood in July for the final trail event.
Update on the West Region tournament scheduled for next weekend. The tournament has been officially moved to lake O.H. Ivie. After discussion with locals in the Lake Leon area, the decision was made to go ahead and move due to uncertainty of water levels and safety. The O.H. Ivie tournament headquarters will be at Elm Creek Marina. The lake is off limits until sunrise on the official practice day, Friday, June 10th with registration at Elm Creek 5-7pm Friday evening. Tournament times will be given at registration. Lake Ivie has also received runoff from recent rains and is 9ft higher than two weeks ago. Exercise caution when navigating the river systems.
