Texas Boat World BASSMASTER Team Trail – Qualifier #1 – Lake LBJ

Texas Boat World BASSMASTER Team Trail – Qualifier #1 – Lake LBJ, Granite Shoals, Texas

The Texas Boat World Team Trail (TBTT) held its 2018 Qualifier #1 at beautiful Lake LBJ on February 18, 2018. The stakes were high, as the competitors were seeking to qualify the Texas year-end championship to be held on Lake Belton – October 27-28, 2018, where team(s) will earn the right to compete in the National Toyota Bonus Bucks BASSMASTER Team Championship to be held at Lake TBD in December 2018. Qualifier #1 was held from Bluebriar Park – Granite Shoals, Texas, where the stage was set for an exciting finish with the fish being mostly in the classic pre-spawn mode. Lake LBJ is surrounded by boat docks and beautiful lakeside homes, and has an abundance of shoreline cover, brush-piles, and ledges where those big fish reside. The lake activity peaks in the summer months, but in early February the lake was virtually left to the Anglers competing at this tournament.

The weather was pleasant, no fog, overcast skies, mid 50s and just a beautiful morning for a great day of fishing. The anglers all retuned to the weigh-in at 3:00 p.m., and the crowd was excited to see some heavy bags come to the scales. One team topped the scales with a bag of fish weighing an impressive 29.53. The team of David Stidnum and Gerald Poboril have fished together for many years, but did not get to practice for this event, and just went to a spot where they have caught them before, and had the bag by 8:30 a.m. They did not cull any fish later and just moved around the lake looking for other prime areas to fish for the remainder of the day. Second place went to a local team – Lee Beurshausen and Randy Grounds, with a five-fish limit weighing 18.60 lbs. Third place went to the team – David Miller and Keanu Brady, with a bag weighing 17.36 lbs. The overall big bass of the tournament weighed in at 7.53 lbs, and was caught by the team of Mike Grounds and Ken Everet.

The top 10 teams at this event earned a qualification into the Texas Boat World Team Championship, which will be held on October 27-28, 2018 at Lake Belton. It is not too late for YOU, to sign up and compete for your opportunity to fish at the BASSMASTER Elites Classic in 2019. There are four (4) more qualifier events scheduled around Texas – Qualifier #2 – March 17, 2018 @ Lake Possum Kingdom, Qualifier #3 – April 22, 2018 @ Lake Conroe, Qualifier #4 – May 5, 2019 @ Lake Coleto Creek, and Qualifier #5 – September 22, 2018 @ Lake Cedar Creek.

Someone will compete at the BASSMASTER CLASSIC – why not you? Come on out this next year, and I believe you will find that these events are competitive, but also conducted amongst friends. If you are on the fence about the new and exciting Texas BassMaster Team Trail (TBTT), go to the webpage and check it out. What a great way to enjoy competing, with a good friend in the boat!

Lake Palestine – #2 for NE Region

Posted on February 11, 2018 Written by Brent Stafford

The 2nd stop for the Northeast Region is Lake Palestine and the fishing has been good from the other tournament results that have been fishing since January. The NE Region has seen a strong start with thirty-one anglers kicking off the season to a stingy Brandy Branch.

Please register or notify the Regional or Tournament Director by text, call, or email by Thursday February 22nd by 11:59 pm CST to register for the Tournament as a Boater or Co-Angler (without a penalty of $10.00). You can also pay your tournament dues online and this will bypass the need to contact the tournament director. We will also have late sign ups and tournament forms collected during the Sunday meeting at the restaurant on Lake Palestine Resort. Also, if we can get 10 committed anglers we can get the grill open for breakfast beginning 5:00 AM CST on Sunday.

Remember, if you fish all six tournaments you will automatically qualify for the Regional Championship as a Co-Angler. Boaters for the championship will be the highest qualifying 50% of the regional championship field (field has to be an even amount of anglers). Best 4 of 6 format to determine boaters for championship. Angler of the Year is determined by fishing all six events.
Official Ramp is Lake Palestine Resort ($5.00 boat ramp fee). Safety Meeting at 6:10 AM. Dues and check in are at Lake Palestine Resort main ramp on Sunday at 5:30 AM CST. Take off at safe light estimated at 6:40 AM CST and weigh in at 3:00 PM CST.

Lake Palestine Resort will offer discounts for rooms at the ramp (call and state that you are from Texas BASS Nation). There are rooms for up to six anglers. GROWING BASSMASTER HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICAN PROGRAM SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR 2018 CLASS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — B.A.S.S. is now accepting nominations for the best and brightest high school bass anglers in the country to complete its
2018 class of distinguished students.

The Bassmaster High School All-American Fishing Team presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods recognizes the 12 best high school anglers in the nation. The program is designed to reward young athletes for their performance in tournaments, leadership in their communities and involvement in conservation efforts.

Applications for the team, which is now in its fourth year, will be accepted today through Feb. 16.

To be considered, a student must be nominated by a parent, coach, teacher or other school official. Students currently enrolled in grades 10 through 12 with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher are eligible.

Judges will select up to two student anglers in each state. These All-State Fishing Team members will become semifinalists in the selection of the 12-member All-American Team. Criteria include success in high school fishing tournaments and involvement in conservation efforts and other community service activities.

The anglers chosen will compete in a one-day Bassmaster All-American High School Tournament to be held in conjunction with the 2018 Toyota Bassmaster Texas Fest benefiting Texas Parks and Wildlife Department — one of nine regular-season Bassmaster Elite Series tournaments being held this year. Elite Series anglers will serve as coaches for the student anglers in the one-day fishing event on Lake Travis in Jonestown, Texas, where they will be honored before the weigh-in crowd.

“Our High School All-American program has grown exponentially, with almost double the number of applicants since its inception.” said Hank Weldon, senior manager of the Bassmaster High School program. “We are so proud to see all of the accomplishments of young students across the country that do great things for their community and our sport. And, to recognize them with this award is such an honor for B.A.S.S. We can’t wait to see what our 2018 applicants will bring to the table.”

All students who compete in high school fishing events are eligible, regardless of whether they are affiliated with B.A.S.S. or another fishing organization.

Notices have been sent to youth fishing directors of the B.A.S.S. Nation and other organizations, as well as leaders of state high school fishing programs. Adults can nominate students by completing an online form at Bassmaster.com/allamerican. Nominations must be submitted before midnight, Feb. 16.
