Tough Times At Conroe

Posted on January 13, 2019 Written by Administrator

The Texas B.A.S.S. Nation – Southeast Region held its first Region Qualifier of 2019 on January 12.  The tournament was held on Lake Conroe out of Stow-Away Marina.  Late December continual rain had raised the lake level to over a foot.  This created very muddy conditions and floating debris.  The 10 days prior to the event, the SJRA had water release dropping the lake nearly 10 inches.

As pre-tournament fishing reports were not favorable, it was evident the reports were true as 60% of the 133 angler field did not weigh in a keeper.  However, we all know “someone always finds them” on tournament day.  This statement rang true for The BASS Club angler, Brian Jones, as he found the only 5-fish limit weighing in at 21.49 pounds, anchored with a 6.62  kicker.

Katy Bassmaster angler Wayne McLaughlin followed in 2nd place with 14.04.  The BASS Club angler Jason McClure came in 3rd place with 12.86, followed by fellow TBC angler Colby Bryant with 12.11.  Rounding out the Top-5 was former Region Director, Daniel Davis, whose 10.25 pound Lake Conroe toad earned him 5th place and Big Bass for the tournament.

Thank you to the Seven Coves Bass Club and The BASS Club for assisting at this event.  The amount of organization and patience for the first tournament was evident as the 133 angler field launched and was staged without issue.  Special thanks to sponsor partner McCain Rods, as well as the event host Stow-Away Marina.

The next event will be held on Toledo Bend out of San Miguel Park, February 12.  See you at T-Bend.

Record Amount Raised At Annual Nation Club Event

Posted on October 27, 2018 Written by Administrator

The Seven Coves Bass Club celebrated its 11th year of the Fall Bass Classic charity tournament, October 13, 2018, on Lake Conroe.  Hosted by StowAway Marina, this year the annual tournament benefited the Kids Unlimited Foundation.  Kids Unlimited (kidsunlimited.org) was founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to benefit children stricken with cancer. This organization as founded with the hope to provide children a reprise from cancer and an opportunity to be free of the harsh treatment regimen. Through these efforts, Kids Unlimited joins over 250 families together for consistent family-oriented activities.

This year we had 45 angler team entries, which allowed us to pay 6-places, and first and second Big Bass awards.  The team of Garrett Pierce and Colin Bode figured it out with their limit of 17.47 pounds.  Their win earned them a check of $1500.

2nd – BJ Tarr/Bud Tarr – 5 Fish – 15.31 – $800

3rd – Jason McClure/Colby Bryant – 5 Fish – 14.09 – $550

4th – Terry Reich/Ron Gibson – 4 fish – 13.14 – $250

5th – Jamie Yancy/Cole Williamson – 4 fish – 12.16 – $150

6th – Jason Harrell – 3 Fish – 11.91 – $125

Big Bass – Darren Haarmeyer/Carlene Wynn – 7.95 – $900

2nd BB – Ty Russell/Carl Richardson – o7.65 – $100 Papasitos Gift Card

The team of Sam Granberry and Ron Kost were the winners of the early entry prize drawing sponsored by The BASS Club, winning a Daiwa Fuego reel for each of them.

Drum Roll Please – Above all, the biggest winner was the Kids Unlimited Foundation as the 11th Annual Fall Bass Classic was able to raise a record $10,000!  SCBC presented this check at the annual Kids Unlimited “Kid Fish” event at Fayette County lake held on October 27, with many kids and families present.

The success of this annual event is not possible without our sponsrs, anglers, the community, and their support through their participation and donations.

Hot, But Not On Livingston

Posted on June 10, 2018 Written by Administrator

The Southeast Texas B.A.S.S. Nation’s sixth and final regular event of the 2018 season ended as 66 anglers took to the water from various ramps on Lake Livingston.  This event is pre-designated as a trailering event, with specific procedures to be followed by anglers.  The field was greeted by clear to partly-cloudy, very light winds and air temps up to the lower to mid-90’s.  The previous two weeks’ temperatures were in the mid to high 90’s, which made it difficult for anglers to find much consistency in practice.  Due to flooding conditions in the last year from Hurricane Harvey and other floods, Lake Livingston has changed with many of the anglers’ old dependable “hot spots” fishing differently, or not accessible due to silting in.

It was apparent that Lake Livingston was a challenge for most of the anglers with only 10 anglers managing to capture a 5-fish limit.  Having 5 pound kickers was the key to being in the Top-3 for the tournament.  One of those anglers was The BASS Club angler Colin Bode, which earned him a 1st Place check.  Bode’s limit was anchored by a 5.33 Big Bass, which took 2nd place Big Bass for the tournament.

Second place went to Katy Bassmaster Angler Ed Grisham with 13.90 pounds, anchored by the Big Bass of the tournament, with a nice 5.88 pounder.  Third place went to The BASS Club angler, Wesley Johnson, with 13.64 limit, which included a 4.93 big bass.

After the tournament event’s award checks were given, the 2018 standings were given and the Top-40 Championship tournament lake was announced:  Lake Travis, September 21-22.  The Angler Of The Year race has probably been the closest all year than any other year.  Wesley Johnson’s win at Livingston secured his place as the 2018 Angler Of The Year Champion.  Congratulations to The Bass Club for earning their 5th straight Club Of The Year title.

Full Tournament & 2018 Standings available at:  www.texasbassonline.com/se-tournaments

The Southeast Region would like the thank Waterfront Lodge & Marina for hosting our event.  Also, thank you to Onalaska Bass Club and Seven Coves Bass Club for assisting with the tournament.  Thank you to all the Region clubs for their raffle donations, and raffle ticket buyers.  Your generosity this year that helps ensure we have great events and championships.

Good luck to those that fish the Top-40 Championship, and we will have further details out through the club presidents by mid-July.
