Club Div SE Region: Tim Jahn Tops the Field at Sam Rayburn

Posted on April 23, 2025 Written by Brent Stafford

The 2025 Southeast Region Individual Trail made their third stop of the 2025 season, at Sam Rayburn on Saturday, April 19, 2025, out of Jackson Hill Marina, with 82 anglers competing. Due to projected high winds, this was designated a trailering tournament.

Pre-tournament talk had anglers catching fish in variety ways, from chasing the shad spawn to flipping flooded brush, hay grass and Cypress trees.

The Bass Club member Tim Jahn bested the field with a limit of bass weighing in at 23.26, anchored by the overall big bass of the tournament a 9.07-pound Sam Rayburn beauty. Tim states that he targeted bushes and Cypress trees that were on windy points. Tim utilized a Strike King Rage Bug in Blue Craw with the pinchers dipped in garlic chartreuse dye, he felt this was key as it made it resemble a blue gill, he paired the bait with a Trokar hook and 3/8-ounce weight, he felt the heavier weight helped him make a more accurate presentation.

Tim Jahn shows off 2 of the 5 that anchored his winning stringer, a 7-pounder, and the Big Bass of the tournament a 9.07 pounder that earned him Big Bass of the tournament.

Brian Jones with The Bass Club finished second with a five bass limit that weighed 17.82. Bryan states that he target flooded hay grass with swim jig and Rage Bug to catch his weight.

Nacogdoches Bass Club member Joseph Bruener finished third overall with a five fish limit that tipped the scales at 16.19-pounds. Joseph started out the day targeting a shad spawn with a swim bait and then moved to Cypress trees with a frog.

Seven Coves Bass Club member Clifford Cook won the second Big Bass of the tournament with a 7.14 pounder.

At the halfway point of the season The Bass Club is currently leading the Southeast Region Club of the Year race with 4,598.24 points followed by the Vidor Bass Anglers Association with 4,543.17 points and currently in third is the Seven Coves Bass club wi th 4,345.25 points.

In the Angler of the Year race, The Bass Club member Mason McQuerry leads with 753.73 points, followed by Seven Coves Bass Club member Roy Johnson with 726.34 points and a close third is Vidor Bass Anglers Association member Bryan Trahan with 726.05 points. The current Southeast Region Big Bass of the Year leader is Roy Johnson with a 9.90 pounder caught on Lake Conroe on 3/15/25.

Thank you to the members of the assisting clubs as well as the Southeast Region Directors for their assistance in conducting a smooth tournament.

Next on the schedule for the Southeast Region is back-to-back tournaments on Lake Conroe on May 3 & 4, 2025, out of April Plaza.

2025 Club Division State Championship Lake Granbury

Posted on April 17, 2025 Written by DaShon Peck

The 2025 Club Division State Championship was held on Lake Granbury on April 4th & 5th. On the two official practice days prior to the start of the tournament, anglers were treated to fair weather conditions as they tried to locate some fish on the Brazos River impoundment. By the start of the tournament, rain and cooler weather had set in. Water temperatures were hovering around the 60-degree mark with fish wanting to move shallow.

Day #1 on the boater side saw Chad Petrie lead the charge with an impressive 5-fish limit weighing 21.35 lbs! Chad is a member of the Century Bass Club and is always a perineal favorite. Jacob Sepeda with the Angelo Federation Bass Club brought in a 3-fish stringer weighing 16.07 lbs anchored by a 7.14 lb largemouth that was big bass of the day. Rounding out the top three for Day #1 was Katy Bass Club member Richard Howell. Richard also had a 5-fish limit weighing 15.86 lbs. On the co-angler side, Dylan Slaughter with the Callahan County Bass Club brought in a 3-fish limit weighing 14.10 lbs to take the early lead. Dylan’s bag was anchored by a giant 9.72 lb tank that was big fish for Day #1. Albert Skinner with Lone Star Bass Anglers was second with a limit weighing 10.10 lbs. Josh Risinger with Northeast Texas Anglers ended up in third place with a bag weighing 9.51 lbs.

On the final day of the tournament on the boater side, Chad Petrie slammed the door with another 5-fish limit weighing 19.83 lbs! Trevor Rogge with Canyon Bass Club brought in the heaviest limit of the tournament weighing an impressive 22.94 lbs. Trevor’s bag included the biggest fish of the tournament, a giant 10.70 lb largemouth! Ryan Watkins out of the Vidor Bass Anglers club weighed in a limit weighing 17.57 lbs.

Chad Petrie was the overall boater champion with a two-day combined weight of 41.18 lbs! Josh Risinger was the overall co-angler champion with a combined weight of 21.17 lbs! The top eight anglers on the boater side and the top eight anglers on the co-angler side all punched their ticket to advance to the B.A.S.S. Nation National Championship in 2026!

The top four teams of the tournament also received prize money. The top teams and their combined weight were as follows:

Tapia and Fudge figure out fickle PK bite at 3rd North Central Region qualifier of 2025

Posted on April 2, 2025 Written by Brent Stafford

Individual
Big Bass

YTD Standings

The North Central Region, Club Division, held its third qualifying tournament of the year on Sunday, March 30th at lake Possum Kingdom.  Several of the competitors fished the Team Division tournament on PK just the day before and thought they had some idea of what to expect from the lake.  Nope!  PK was as fickle as ever and played the old “show em one thing and take it away” game and left most of the anglers shaking their heads.  The one thing that was consistent from Saturday to Sunday was the wind!  It seems as if the wind starting blowing on January 1st and hasn’t stopped yet…and not just any wind, but west Texas topsoil dust kinda wind!

When the “dust” settled, it was  Eric Tapia, Centex Basshunters, who topped the rest of the boaters with one of the only two five fish limits and weighing in at 11.91 pounds.  Eric received $432 for his efforts, making a tough day much more bearable.

With three fish weighing 8.99, DaShon Peck, The Colony Bass Club, secured the second place finish, just edging Andrew out by a little over half a pound, and cashing a check for $288.  DaShon also took home an additional $140 and the Big Bass title of the tournament with a nice 5.64 pound beauty.

Andrew Wren, Tarrant Christian Bass Club, had the only other limit weighing 8.42 pounds, however, it was only good enough for third place.

On the non-boater side, each non boater managed only one fish each and it was new comer Jordan Fudge, The Colony Bass Club, who took the top spot with 2.51 pounds, a mere .16  pounds more than the fish weighed in by Chris Demiglio, The Colony Bass Club, who took home second place honors.  Jordan’s fish was worth $288 in his pocket!

Thank you to all the anglers who participated and hope to see you next time. The next qualifier will be on Lake Belton on May 18th and will again follow the Team trail tournament on May 17th on Belton as well.  These back to back tournaments are a great opportunity to fish a full weekend on the same lake so mark your calendars and lets see what you got!
