The North West Region fished its final regional event of 2019 on Hubbard Creek. The anglers were met with 20-25 mph south winds for the official practice and tournament day. This was par for the course this year for the North West Region. I want to take this opportunity to say thanks to our members that turned out to fish under some tough conditions this season.

The wind didn’t seem to bother 1st place finisher Noble Sessions. Noble brought in an impressive bag weighing 18.87 lbs that included a nice 8.81 lb largemouth for Big Bass of the tournament. Congrats on a great year Noble! Kenneth Watts was 2nd with 11.39 and Andy Ortega was 3rd with 10.16. Andy also clinched the Angler of the Year title in a very close race with Troy Bryant. Each angler that attended the pre-tournament meeting on Friday night had the chance to nominate a lake for the championship. After 3 lakes were drawn out of a hat, Lake Brownwood came up as the Regional Championship lake. The Regional Championship will be held October 12th & 13th on Lake Brownwood. The top 10 anglers in points will be the boaters and the next 10 will be non-boaters.

I want to thank everyone that came out and fished with us this year. I look forward to seeing the championship qualifiers at Brownwood. Please let me know asap if you plan on fishing the championship so we can get the boaters & non-boaters paired up.

The North West Region of the Texas BASS Nation held its fifth regional event of the year on E.V. Spence. This was the first time the North West Region had visited this west Texas lake and we were glad we did. After a short weather delay due to storms in the area, all 21 anglers fishing the tournament brought fish to the scales. Almost half of the field had 5 fish limits.

Wendell Ramsey took 1st place with 16.15 lbs. Tournament director Troy Bryant was a close 2nd with 15.04 lbs. Rounding out the top three was Glenn Hahn with 14.50 lbs. for 3rd place.

The bigger fish seemed to be at a premium, but local angler Brandon Soliz knew where to look. Brandon had big fish of the tournament with a nice 5.27 lb large mouth.

The last regional stop of the year for the North West Region will be at Hubbard Creek on June 15th. The lake is completely full, the grass is plentiful, and the fishing should be hot! Don’t forget that the anglers attending will also be casting votes for the championship lake this fall. A very stingy O.H. Ivie was the site for tournaments #3 & #4 for the Northwest Region. All the talk before the tournaments was that O.H. Ivie was fishing extremely tough and that’s exactly what the anglers found. The lake level had risen close to 30 ft in the last year and the bass had not adjusted to the huge influx of water. This coupled with rain storms and high winds made for tough fishing conditions.

As the saying goes someone always finds some fish. On day #1 it was Wendell Ramsey taking 1^st place, Troy Bryant 2^nd, and Mike Pruitt in 3^rd. Wendell had 5.04 lb fish to take big bass honors.

On day #2 Andy Ortega took 1^st place, Troy Montgomery was 2^nd, and Kelley Hudson took 3^rd. Andy Ortega had big bass with a 5.19 lb. Check the Northwest Region standings for weights.

The next stop for the Northwest Region will be E.V. Spence on May 18^th. This will be the first time the Northwest Region has fished this lake and hopes are high for some heavy bags.
