Hot At Stillhouse

Posted on September 20, 2019 Written by Administrator

The Texas B.A.S.S. Nation – Southeast Region held its coveted Top-40 Championship, September 13th & 14th , at Stillhouse Hollow Lake.  The two-division 40-Angler field consisted of 20 boaters and 20 non-boaters, who qualified through their highest scoring 4 tournaments of the 6 tournaments held throughout the 2019 tournament season.  The Southeast Region also offers the Top-40 event as a “no-entry fee” event, with 3 places paid to the top boater and non-boater.  An optional Big Bass cash side pot was offered to the anglers in both divisions.

A pairings banquet was held at the host site, Stillhouse Park, consisting of barbeque.  The Angler-Of-The-Year trophy was presented to Colby Bryant and the Club Of The Year trophy was presented to The BASS Club.  Prior to the pairings announcements for the 2-Day event, each angler received a custom Top-40 moisture wicking shirt.

Temperatures were in the high 90’s and very little breeze or cloud coverage.  Stillhouse had deep hydrilla all over the lake, and finding the areas with the bass grouped was key.   After the two-day event, Brian Jones bested the 20-angler boater field with a limit each day totaling  36.54 pounds!  Brian was throwing top-water baits in the morning then went to flipping deep hydrilla in around 20ft of water the rest of the day.

On the non-boater side, Charlie Miglicco came from 6th place standing on day one, to taking the win with a 10.32 pound 3-fish limit on Day 2!  Also, Daniel Davis earned the Big Bass side pot with a 7.63 toad!

Good luck Bryan and Charlie at the B.A.S.S. Central Regional next Spring!

We look forward to seeing everyone in 2020, starting January 11th, at Toledo Bend!

Watts Wins At Rayburn

Posted on June 11, 2019 Written by Administrator

The Southeast Texas B.A.S.S. Nation held its final event of the 2019 tournament season on Sam Rayburn, Saturday, June 8.  After high water conditions all year, the lake held constant as the anticipation for the final event of the year that would determine Angler-Of-The-Year, Club-Of-The-Year, and clinch the final Top-40 Championship qualifiers.

At the end of the day, only 7 of the 117-angler field, weighed in 5-fish limits.  Also, there were only 22 anglers that were not able to weigh a fish, 40% of the field.  Big Sam held true on the numbers game as many anglers reporting having to “weed through a lot of small ones” to catch keepers.  However, the quality that Sam Rayburn is known for was lacking in the Big Bass category with only two bass weighed in over 6 pounds.

Long-time Region and Houston Bass Bandits angler, Bill Watts, managed to besting the field with19.73, taking the win by over two pounds!  His 5-fish limit was anchored by a 6.31 pound toad, which also took Big Bass for the tournament.  Bill said his success came from flipping soft plastic baits on points all day, mainly in 8-16 foot of water.  “I fished the points, and depending on the cover and depth, I was 20 to 200 feet on each side of them”, said Watts.

Seven Coves Bass Club angler Robert Thierry was second with his 5-fish limiting weighing 17.58, followed by The BASS Club angler Colby Bryant with 16.32.  Colby’s 3rd place finish solidified his place as the 2019 Angler of The Year!  Congrats Colby!

Also, Big Congrats to The BASS Club on their 6th consecutive Club Of The Year Title!

After the tournament checks were presented, the Top-40 Championship Qualifiers were announced, along with this year’s Top-40 Championship site; Stillhouse Hollow Lake.  The dates will be September 13-14th, with the host ramp tournament at Stillhouse Park.  Further details will be announced mid-summer.

Thank you to the Onalaska Bass Club and Beaumont Bass Anglers for assisting and special thanks to Mill Creek Park for hosting the event.

Special thanks to sponsor partner McCain Rods and Swagger Tungsten.  Please know that Swagger is offering a special promotional discount to Region anglers, so please contact your club president for more information.

Limits Of Bass & Rain On Belton

Posted on May 14, 2019 Written by Administrator

The Texas B.A.S.S. Nation – Southeast Region held its fifth Region Qualifier of 2019 on May 11th.  The tournament was held on Lake Belton and scheduled to launch out BLORA.  The prior week Southeast Texas was plummeted with rainfall and storms, raising the Belton lake level over 5 feet since the previous weekend, putting the Region Directors on high alert to make difficult decisions.  On Wednesday the decision was made to continue the tournament, but the club presidents were notified there could be changes at the last minute.  Lake Belton was continuing to rise and Region Director Eddie Dillow was notified by lake authorities of the potential of ramp and even lake closure.  This came true as Friday as the lake rose another foot, and BLORA was forced to close their ramp.  The directors made the decision to allow trailering with the weigh-in at BLORA.

Weather conditions Saturday were not favorable as storms came through, but the fishing was great as 37 of the 75 angler field weighed in limits!  The Bass Club angler Eric Adams took advantage of the flooded conditions throwing bladed jigs and pitching bushes filling his limit early.  While culling several times throughout the day, Eric bested the field with a 21.28 pound limit, and a 6.26 pound kicker, to win the event!  Fellow TBC angler Brian Jones earned the 2nd spot with a 17.24 pound limit with his 6.20 pound kicker, followed by Vidor Bass Angler Association angler Carl Skiles. with 16.36.

Big Bass honors went to Vidor Bass Anglers Association angler Justin Royal with a 8.16 pound Lake Belton Toad, followed by TBC angler Kenny Curlee with 6.44!

Thank you to Seven Coves Bass Club & Onalaska Bass Club for assisting at this event.  Also, thank you to BLORA for being the host site.

June 8th will be our last qualifying event of 2019 on Sam Rayburn out of Mill Creek.  We will announce our Angler Of The Year, Top-40 Championship Qualifiers, as well as the Top-40 lake.  See you at Big Sam!

Special thanks to sponsor partner McCain Rods and Swagger Tungsten.  Please know that Swagger is offering a special promotional discount to Region anglers, so please contact your club president for more information.
