Baxley & Smith Take Boater & Co-Angler Titles in SE Region

The Texas BASS Nation SE Region held its ” Top-40″ Regional Championship on Somerville Lake, October 14-15.  Conditions were tough leading up the event and during with the low lake levels and blue bird skies. Word on the water was it was a tough bite all week, but once a spot was found, it was loaded.

Boater side champion was The BASS Club angler Wesley Baxley, and the non-boater side champion was Vidor Bass Anglers Association Garrett Smith.

On Day 1 boater competitor Allen Harwell (The Bass Club) was leading the 1st day with 23+lbs bag.  Allen started the day off quick with his first keeper off a boat ramp with a shakeyhead rigged junebug trick worm.  He then moved around on islands and brush piles with the same bait.  Wesley Baxley (The Bass Club) followed in 2nd.  Wesley on day 1 fished with a square bill crankbait and shakeyhead on shallow rock and brush.  Garret Smith with the Vidor Bass Anglers Association was working a popping perch and dragging a speed worm around rocks.

On Day 2 Wesley Baxley stuck with a square bill working any brush piles he could find. Garrett Smith on day 2 went back to using a speed worm and a small swimbait.

This wraps up the SE Texas BASS Nation 2022 season.  We look forward to seeing you in 2023!

Conroe Fall Bass Classic Oct 8th

As you may know, we have our 15th Annual Lake Conroe Fall Bass Classic – benefiting Kids Unlimited scheduled for October 8th, at Stow-A-Way.  This year not only are we guaranteeing a $2,500 for First Place AND $1,000 for Big Bass, but we are adding 2 drawings for a Kistler Rod & Reel ($300 value) for early entries received by Oct. 2nd!  We will be taking early registrations before our meeting this Sunday, Sept. 18, at Stow-A-Way.  I have attached the entry form.

As always, 100% of the proceeds go directly to Kids Unlimited, and we try and keep all overhead costs low with only print media and social media “shares”.  Therefore we would appreciate your assistance getting the word out to your membership (or otherwise) about the tournament.

SE Region Finishes the Season on Stillhouse

The SE Region wrapped up its 2022 season on Stillhouse Hollow last weekend. Fishing leading up the week before was reporting going to be a slam fest. But as always Mother Nature had other ideas. The week of the lake had high winds all the way through Sunday but there are always those that find the quality fish.

Justin Royal with the Vidor Bass Anglers Association took the win with 19.54lbs, followed in 2nd place Howard Dejean with the Seven Coves Bass Club with 17.35lbs, 3rd place Wesley Baxley with The Bass Club with 16.45lbs.

Justin Royal was targeting deep points with isolated trees on them throwing a texas rigged 6th sense Ridge Worm with a Hayabusa 4/0 WRM114 on a Power Tackle rod 7’6” the one 04 , paired with 14# Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon. The rod and line set up was critical. I chose the ridge worm because if it’s unique movement in the water and he knew it’s something the fish don’t see a lot of. The rod helped him be able to feel the bites out deep and get them out of the trees with no problem. With the gamma line, Justin was able to go down to 14# test line to get more bites without sacrificing strength and abrasion resistance. He had all his fish by 11 o’clock. Justin tried to upgrade and was just never able to run into one of those lake Stillhouse giants.

Big Bass Honors goes to Eric Adams with The Bass Club with a 7.44lbs toad, 2nd place fell to Wesley Baxley with a 5.56lbs kicker.

This event also wrapped up the AOY race for the 2022 season.

That honor went to Wesley Baxley which was his 2nd year in a row to pull that off. 2nd in AOY went to Collin Bode with The Bass Club, 3rd Chris Glass with The Bass Club, 4th Jason Gunter, and 5th went to Tim Jahn with The Bass Club.

Club of the Year went to The Bass Club, followed by Vidor Bass Anglers Association.

Top 40 will be Oct 14-15 on Lake Somerville. See our Top 40 anglers there!
