Northwest Region Championship held on Lake Brownwood

Posted on June 16, 2022 Written by Brent Stafford

The Northwest Region held its 2022 Regional Championship on Lake Brownwood June 11 & 12. The weather was hot and the boat traffic was heavy but these anglers still managed to bring some nice limits to the scales.

Grayson Morrow took the win in the boater division with a two-day total of 27.74 lbs. Grayson was runner-up at last year’s championship and it was only a matter of time before he got the win.

On the non-boater side, new member Shayne Dupree brought in a 3-fish limit each day for a total winning weight of 15.98 lbs. Shayne has been a contender at every tournament this year and the win was well deserved.

These two young men have punched their ticket to be on the Texas state team and represent the Northwest Region at the 2023 Texas BASS Nation Central Regional!

This year’s AOY Jacob Sepeda took 2nd place in the boater division with23.62 lbs followed by Tom Enloe with 23.38 lbs and Troy Montgomery with 22.62 lbs. Paul Hedrick took 2nd place in the non-boater division with 13.01 lbs followed by Derrick (Bo) Ard with 12.41 lbs and Royce Scheetz with 10.27 lbs. Tom Enloe also had Big Bass for the boaters with a nice 6.07 lb largemouth. Big Bass on the non-boater side went to Shayne Dupree with a 5.12. Congratulations to all the anglers who made the championship and thanks to those who came out and fished with us this year. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2023!

Northwest Region Finishes on E.V. Spence

Posted on May 24, 2022 Written by Brent Stafford

The Northwest Region held its final regional tournament of the year on E.V. Spence, May 21st. This little west Texas reservoir may not be as well-known as O.H. Ivie, but let me tell you it’s full of big healthy bass! Almost every angler had a limit and everyone caught fish.

Derrick Ard set the bar high bringing in his personal best 5-fish limit of 27.93 lbs! Derrick’s bag included two fish over seven pounds with one of them taking Big Bass of the tournament at 7.58 lbs. Great job Derrick!

Second place belonged to Floyd Kaerwer with a total weight of 23.20. Floyd’s bag also included a nice 7.16-pound fish. Third place went to Charles Coger with 21.05.

There were 79 fish caught with a total weight of 279 pounds. That is an average fish weight of 3.53 lbs. I don’t know any bass fisherman that wouldn’t love that!

A very close Angler of the Year race was also settled at this tournament. Jacob Sepeda secured the AOY title by bringing in 19.88 lbs. Jacob fished tough at every tournament this year and the Angler of the Year title is well deserved. Congratulations Jacob!
